(From our Own Correspondent). MAGISTRATE’S COURT. A sitting of the Maigstrato’s Court was held in AVaimate on Tuesday, before Messrs AV. Geddes and AV. F. Cheverton, J.P.’s. BY-LAAV BREACHES. James Flynn, charged with leaving a car standing in John Street after dark without a light, was fined 10s and posts. F. G. Hart, who pleaded guilty to a similar charge, %vas also fined 10s and costs. A meeting of the creditors of Thomas Alex Adamson was held before the Deputy Official Assignee (Mr F. A. Raymond) at the Courthouse, Waiinate, yesterday morning. Bankrupt’s liabilities were set down as unsecured creditors, £955 6s 6d, secured creditors, nil, while his assets were shown as book,debts estimated to produce £8 10s and f urn it life £3O, leaving a deficiency of £93Q. Russell (care- Hamilton and Fitch, AVaimate) £lO4. Bankrupt in a sworn statement said that about three years ago he took the lease of G. AV. Russell’s property of 100 acres at £2 an acre, and at the same time rented 20 acres for a crop of potatoes. The potatoes were a failure, and he estimated the loss at £4OO. On Russell’s property the first year he sowed 20 acres of peas, but the crop did not yield en'ongh to pay for threshing,, and he only got sufficient seed to plant 10 acres the following year. The second year’s crops, which ! promised well, were- also practically failures, and for the third year ho had | 8 acres of potatoes and 35 acres of oats, from which the return was only £l9 10s after paying all expenses. He also sowed 20 acres of clover seed, hut this did not pay for labour. Ho was induced to go in for a butchery business, and for a time was doing well and used some of the earnings io pay the expenses on the farm. Later ho employed his brother and gave him one-third of the nett profits, and although customers increased and he was having a larger turnover he found ho was not making any headway. After that lie worked for Air J. G. Rmhienklaii, who was to give him one-third of the profits, and lie wa.s confident that the returns under that: arrangement would enable him to gradually pay off all debts, but the venture did not turn out as well as anticipated, and the arrangement was stopped. At present lie was employed by Mr Ruddenklan as a farm labourer at £3 per week- and a free house. He had a wife and two children, and could not make any oiler to his creditors. As there were not sufficient creditors present to form a quorum the meeting was ‘adjourned sine die. GLENAVY. The. Glenavy Rifle Club fired their usual weekly match last .Saturday for a trophy presented by the dub. The following are the scores: —

WAITUNA. Last Friday night a social was held in Uio Waituna School with the object of augmenting the prize fund. A progressive euchre tournament occupied the early part of the evening, iho highest points being gained by All's Halter and Air Hogan. Dancing followed, the music being supplied by Aliss and Air Leonard, and several extras were played by Airs W. Murphy, Aliss Costello, and Air N. Hodges. The duties of Af.Ch were capably carried out by Afcs.sr.s J). Wilson and K. Paterson.
