WAIMATE.
---(From our Own. Correspondent). THE SHOW. Now. that the weather has to all appearances become settled, the prospects tor the Waimate A. and P. Association’s' forty-third annual show which is to be held on Tuesday next, look very bright. A new record, in the way of entries, ..has been established the total this year reaching 850, as compared with 756 twelve months ago. .The most noticeable increases are shown in the sheep, light horses, hack, and hunter classes. Competition for the fifty-guinea cup, presented by the Association, for most points in Border, Leicester, slieep, promises to bp.exceptiqnpjly: keen.;and,it is anticipated that the-exhibits in this class will be equal to anything in the Doniinon. Competitors for the Cup include breeders from North Canterbury and Southland in; addition to* a number of well known South Canterbury breeders. As the outcome of a request from the Association the Railway Department have advised that the work of erecting p. new loading bank on a site alongside the show grounds would be completed by Monday. The Association undoubtedly ■ made a useful move and one that will be much’appreciated by exhbitors ,when the necessity of this work, was pointed out to the Department. The Timaru to Oamaru, jand Oamaru to Timaru evening trains will run half an hour later than usual, connecting ate Studholmo with the train from Waimate. The usu,al 5.15 p.m. train for Studholpie will leave Waiurate at 5.45’p.m. and the usual 6.8 p.m. train for Wailiao Downs will leave Studholme at 6.38 p.m. and Waimate at 7.13 p.m. PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY. The Philharmonic Society’s season was brought to a close on Wednesday evening when the final practice was held. Under the baton of Mr T. L. Morrison the orchestral lias shown a marked improvement since its inception three years ago, and the members thought they could not let the occasion pass without showing their appreciation ot the conductor’s services. On behalf of the society Mr F. Rathgen, after making eulogistic reference to Mr Morrison’s musical accomplishments, presented him with a handsome silver music stand. Mr Morrison briefly returned thanks. BANK HOLIDAY. The banks doing business in Waim,ato will bo dosed on Tuesday next —show day.. GLENAVY. The Glenavy Rifle Club bred a match for a trophy presented by Mr C. D. Fleming, H. Glynn winning. Following are the scores :
