Mr D. McQuarters, who is in Timaru on business, will go north on Monday. Mr W, H. Hagger, Conciliation Commissioner, passed through Timaru yesterday for Oamaru. The Acting Prime Minister (Hon. Sir Francis Bell) is expected to return to Wellington from Hokitika on Saturday morning. Mr W. T. C. Airey, New Zealand Rhodes Scholar for 1920, is expected to arrive in Auckland by the Niagara on December 27. Mr James Macdonald, Assistant General Manager of Railways, will retire from the public service on December 31 on superannuation (says a Press message from AVellington). A Press Association message from London skys that the Countess of Carnarvon and Lieutenant-Colonel lan Onslow Dennistoun, ex-Grenadier-Guards, were married at a registry office in London. The Hon. G. J. Coates (Minister of Railways and of Public Works) and the Hon. W. Downie Stewart (Minister of Industries and Commerce) have intimated to the Christchurch R.S.A. their intention to be present at the Anzac Day memorial service. An Auckland message says that a naval wedding took place there yesterday at St. Mary’s Cathedral, when Commander Stopford, of H.M.S. Chatham, married Miss Rosalmde Cecil Townlen, of Cambridge, England. Lord Jellicoe gave the bride away. A Wellington Press Association message savs that at a smoke concert in honour of Sir.W. Buchanan, given by the Agricultural Association, in recognition of his services to that body, an illuminated address, signed by some hundreds of members, was presented. •Sir AValter Buchanan was also presented with an illuminated album of AVairarapa Views. A Press Association message , says that Mr H. E. Nicholls, secretary of the 'Wellington Harbour Board since .1908, is retiring, after 50 years’ service in various' capacities ,on the clerical staff associated with the management of the AVellington wharves. The new secretary will be Mr A. G. Barnett, who has been treasurer and assistant secretary since 1911.
