PRINCE IN CANADA.
MANY CHARACTERISTIC STORIES By Cable—Press Association —CopyrigbS OTTAWA, September 21. Canadian newspapers are full of amusing stories relating to the Prince of Wales, who, incognito as Lord Renfrew, is helping to harvest sunflowers and wheat on Tiis ranch in Alberta. Two days of this hand-blistering work were enough for the visitor, who has taken to the hills hunting deer and fishing for trout. Meantime the Chief Colonisation official in Calgary sent the following wire to the Government: — T understand a. British harvester, travelling under the name of Renfrew, . is to-day employed on a farm in Alberta. I suggest you obtain winter employment for him, and retain him in Canada permanently. When the Prince passed inspection by the immigration officials, he filled in a card as follows: —
What is your present occupation?— Nothing. The purpose of coming to CanacjaP— To enjoy myself. Is the amount of cash you have enough for your present needs?—Yes. Can you read? —Yes. What language do you speak?—Five of’them.
The ranch in Alberta which the Prince of Wales acquired during his stay in Canada four years ago, and which he is visiting again, has become one of the attractions of the district. In the heart- of the genuine ranching country, it is some 60 miles south of Calgary, but, despite the distance, there is a steady stream of visitors to inspect the methods in use there. It is not merely a show place, but, at the Prince’s own desire, is a model ranch run on thoroughly practical lines with a professor as manager, who went to England to report to his Royal employer not long ago.
