WAIMATE.

OWN CORRESPONDENTWADI ATE RACING CLUB. A meeting of the Waimate Racing Club Committee was held on Saturday afternoon. Present —Messrs T. Twomejfflt (chairman), J. Mathicson, J. Cooney, M. Cooney, J. Dench, G. Balfour, A. McPherson, M. Leonard, and E. C. d’ Auvergne. Mr M. Duggan wrote forwarding his resignation on account of having loft the "district. The resignation was accepted with regret. The New Zealand Racing Conference wrote requesting a plan of the track and its measurements. The secretary was instructed to attend to the matter. It was agreed that the club should take over the property of Mr Saunders on the racecourse reserve at the price fixed by the valuators. It was resolved that the trustees should be asked to cancel the balance of the present lease, and draw up a fresh lease for the Racing Club. The presdent and ' secretary were appointed a sub-committee to draw up a schedule of a caretaker’s duties, and particulars of lease, and submit the same to the committee. ST. AUGUSTINE’S CHURCH CONCERT. A musical and dramatic entertainment of a very high order was provided by the Women’s Dramatic Club in the St. Augustine’s Hall in aid of the parish room fund, on Friday evening. There was a large attendance, add the following programme was exceptionally well received —Jazz Band selection; rexcitation “Rehearsal” Miss Daly ; song, Miss Hoskins; solo dance, Miss D. Napier; military dance, Misses Manchester and pianoforte solo, Miss M. Morton". Other items with choruses were contrbuted by Misses Catter, Hoskins, D. Manchester, E. Napier, and McLeod. A farce entitled “The Bitter Truth” was very well enacted by Misses d’Auvergne, McLeod, D. Napier, and Collett, and was the cause of much amsuemenb. Miss d’Auvergne was the accompaniste.

PRESBYTERIAN SUNDAY SCHOOL SOCIAL.

The Sunday School annual social," which was held on Friday evening, was also the occasion of a farewell to Miss Clarke, who is 10 be married shortly, and is leaving the district; Mr G. J. Shaekleton referred to the faithful and conscientious manner in which Miss Clarke had taken an interest in her senior class of girls, the time she had devoted to training the scholars for various entertainments, and also to her work in the Church, as organist. He wished her every happiness in her future life, and handed her a silver sugar and cream bowl, with the best wishes of all. Mr J. Strong, and Mr W. Simpson endorsed Mr Shackleton’s remarks. The Rev. J. D. Wilson, replying on behalf of Miss Clarke, said that he thanked the teachers and scholars for their kindness and faithfulness, and that she was very sorry at having to sever her connection with the Sunday School. An appropriate farewell song was sung by Miss Shackleton, aiid the National'-Anthem'’con-cluded a very pleasant function. During the evening recitations and songs were given by Metta Price, Peggy Angus, Peter Dow, Rew r i Selbv, and Miss E. Dunstan.
