The inquest. on the victims of the Bellbird colliery disaster was resumed to-day. Robert Wilson (mine deputy). .vho went into the mine early on the morning of the accident, and was present when it. occurred, gave evidence that Bellbird was not a dusty pit, and gas had never his knowledge been reported in the present nor' any previous lire. Asked if there had been any complaints of bad air, be said there had always Icon conip'aint.s of sluggishness in the air, but the men never complained of any ill effects. * In roplv to a question lie said he thought that if there had been proper life-saving appliances some men might have been saved. He thought the (ire might have been caused by a lighted cigarette butt. Dr Henry gave evidence that the examination of the bodies indicated that death had been caused by carbon monoxide poisoning. Deputy Sneddon said tho pit was fairly safe and free of gas,
