The quarterly meeting of the officials of the Methpdist Church, Timaru Circuit, was held in the Woodlands Street Schoolroom on Tliursday' evening, the Rev. A. C. Lawry presiding over a large attendance. The membership returns showed a small reduction, owing to a revision of the rolls. The income for the quarter was £3lO 18s 2d, and the expenditure £330 18s 7d. The shortage, caused by the removal expenses of two ministers, was met by' a vote from the Reserve Fund. Special collections were authorised for foreign missions, and for trust purposes at Woodlands Street and Kensington. Satisfactory reports were received regarding the Sunday Schools and Band of Hope work throughout the cercuit. An appeal from the Welington Central Mission was sympathetically received and arrangements made for raising funds to assist. Votes of condolence were passed to the relatives of the late Mr Bert Gilchrist and Mr T. Berry. An appeal was made by the chairman for a good attendance at the special devotional meetings now being held in the various Methodist churches. Mr J. Simmons was authorised to raise a fund for securing furnished apartments fpr the third minister. Special resolutions of appreciation for r°st services and good wishes for future success were passed to the Rev. W. A. Hay' and H. Benny oil their removal from the circuit. The circuit stewards cordially' welcomed the new ministers—the Revs. A. C. Lawrv and A. Blaketnoro. The ladies of the Woodlands Street Church were thanked for providing supper. Although ‘the weather was not too favourable the sale of work promoted by' the St. Andrews Ladies’ Guild proved vorv successful, and the net result was over £BO. Considerable trouble had been taken in decorating the hall, and the results amply repaid the work. The various stallholders were as follows :—Produce —Mesdames Hammond and Palmer and Miss Hammond; work —Mesdames Rankin, Stowell, Ireland and Gellatley and bliss'Arden; sweets— Airs H. Elworthy, assisted by. Mrs Bell; Christmas tree and bran dips— Mesdames H. B. S. Johnstone and Woodhouse, assisted by' Mrs Webb, Misses Gellatly and Ireland; refreshment—Airs P. Elworthy, assisted by Airs Smith, Misses Arden (2) and Myers. The shooting gallery, quoits, and Belgian bowls were in charge of Messrs Bell and Thomas, Mr G. Smith attended to tho nail-driving contests, while Messrs Webb, Stowell, Hammond, IT. Pugh and Hendry looked after the various competitions. The sheep-guess-ing—dead weight—was won by r Mrs Smith, Messrs France and Brunton, each of whom guessed the correct weight (491 b). A candle-lighting competition prHuced a great deal of amusement, many of the entrants blowing out the candle instead of tho match. The winners proved to be V Robb, Messrs O’Brien and H. Push. Mr Bell and E. D. Hoslcins showed themselves to he capable milliners, and received well-deserved applause for their “creations ” A cooking competition was won by Miss Hastie. Other successful c.emnetiovs were: Mrs Stowell, Messrs Gordon and Gellatle,y (dolls)and Mrs P T)ix and Davidson (cushions). A specially fine rake was divided between Mrs Smith and the vicar, and Mr Hubbard carried home a large dressed goose for his Sunday’s dinner.
