Official returns.of infectious diseases show a marked decrease in the number of diphtheria cases, there being 14 cases, as against 21 for the previous week. The influenza figures are considered quite satisfactory, the pneumonic cases generally showing a decrease. IN NORTH CANTERBURY. By Telegrnpli—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. From noon on Saturday till noon to-day nine further cases of pneumonic influenza and one easel of pneumonia were reported in North Canterbury, and two deaths from pneumonic influenza, one in Christchurch and one m South Canterbury. HIGH SCHOOL CLOSED. By Telegraph —Press Association. DUNEDIN, Monday. The Medical Officer of Health (Dr T. McKibbin) stated to-day that the position as regards the influenza epidemic in Otago and Southland showed at least a temporary improvement. The doctors had had a busy time, but there was now a reduction in the number ot cases For the 24 hours ended at noon 10-dav, no cases, either of pneumonic influenza, or of ordinary pneumonia liad been notified.
