R.S.A. STATES ITS CASE. PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM romSTCHURCH, Monday. The executive of the RS A.'has issued a statement _ ! ply to General McGavm’s recent state ment on the subject u j s unwavering m its st given returned soldiers are mb bmn B the benefit of the conSnS a und n it trilUThe concludes : “It is only The statemei , G .M-S. (General McS l in) hie fen «»■*=<» « * JMcGuvin; Pensions Board, mo f b w„ Ids appointment the policy of if bo ”d h»s ctocsca completely h> to its treatment of neurasthenic .Vi The policy now adopted s that certain cases of neurasthenia shall be bveu treatment at Queen Mary | Hospital, Hanmer Springs and a pen- , sioii on two occasions if necessary. J After their second discharge from Hanmer thev will he given a small pension for six months, after which the pension will cease, and should they subse- | nnently break down again tho Depart- . ment will refuse any further respon- t Ability for them. The Christchurch i R.S.A. maintains that no matter how many times a man may break down in health, as the result of his war service, lie should be given medical treatment and a pension. It is not desired that this statement should bo interpreted as an attack on the Government, because of its treatment of returned soldiers generally. The Christchurch R.S.A. has always applauded th(j Government for its generous treatment of returned men, but it claims that with regard' to the medical treatment of returned soldiers,.who arc breaking down in health to-day, the policy of the Government is not being carried I out by the head of the medical branch | of the pensions department, and this . neglect is spoiling an otherwise, splendid repatriation record,” i
