OBITUARY.
MR T. D. CONDELL
Mr Thomas Deßenzy Condell, whose death occurred in Christchurch on Friday, was' a son of the late Mr Samuel Condell, and was born in County Cork, Ireland, on March 20, 1848. Sir Condell was a student of Christ’s College from 1860 to 1867, and during that time he was captain of the school, Rowley Scholar, Senior Somes Scholar, and also captain of the school eleven, tie was the first old boy to become a master, to which position lie was appointed in 1867, and served under three headmasters —Messrs W. C. Harris and C. C. Corfe, and the Rev. F. A. Hare. After retiring from the College in 18J3, Mr Condell went into business with Messrs Jameson and Anderson, and for the last twenty-five years he liass been in charge of the insurance department t of Fletcher, Humphreys and Co^ The late Mr Condell was a very keen | Freemason, and on account of his eminent service the Grand Lodge or Lagland conferred upon him the rank of Past Grand Standard Bearer. He was also a Past Master of the Hiram Mark Lodge and of the Prince of Males Chapter. The late Mr Condell was the last remaining original member of the Canterbury Club, having joined m 1572 and at the time of Ins death was a life member and also vice-president of the club. He took a very keen interest in sports of all kinds, especially goll, and was well known on the links. ho was one of the original members of the Hadley Club, and also a life member.
