SATURDAY’S MATCHES. POSITION IN DOUBT. A special meeting of the Manageaent Committee of the Rugby Union was held last evening to receive a deputation of club captains who made a request that, in the interests £ players engaged in Monday’s tournament, the competition games arma'ed for Saturday nekt should be I postponed. At last week’s meeting of the Committee it was decided by i the casting vote that no senior j matches should he played on the Saturday prior to the tourney, but immediately notice of motion was given for next meeting that the resolution should be rescinded. At Monday night’s meeting the rescinding motion was carried and fixtures were arranged as usual. It is understood that three of the four town clubs viewed the prospect of playing ,on Saturday - with disfavour, and the deputation to the committee was the outcome. Owing, however, to the delegate who had riioved the rescinding motion insisting that notice of motion was necessai’y before the decision could be reviewed, the chairman ruled that the matter could not then be reopened. ' ' It is understood that subsequent 1 to yesterday’s meeting the secretary j 'tu» u’ancted a requisition calling for ; another special meeting and giving ie necessary notice of the business to be brought forward. This meeting has been summoned for 5 p.m. to-day. MACKENZIE SUB-UNION.

Condensing a paragraph in yesterday’s football notes destroyed the clarity of a reply to an inquiry: “ Can a player legally take a pass off-side? Some referees seem to say yes; others rule no.” A pass (given by one of the opposing side) can be taken off-side, and should be awarded to any man who is not deliberately loitering off-side.’ ” The line in parentheses was missing from the printed reply.
