The Meat Hoard sliouid assist, lie suggested, every provincial union to donate a dozen bullocks lor canning to test the Eastern marKets. The remit was carried unanimously. It was decided unanimously to urge the County Councils to plant trees freely to leave posterity a source ot revenue. A motion that the Government should establish a compulsory Hairy Produce Hoard the same as tlie Meat Board, was carried unanimously. it was resolved unanimously to ask .the Government to facilitate sugar beet tests, supply seed and instruct the Ashburton Experimental Farm to grow ten acres. The meeting fully authorised the "Wheat Board to nx the price with the Government at an early date, and lequested other branches to do likewise.
Discussing a remit to abolish Road Boards which are very numerous in Ashburton, Mr Frampton gave the following figures Masterton, total county expenditure £3/,613; adminisT tration 5.7. Ivairanga i £33,792.; 5.8. Southland: £100,000; 7.31. Waitald: £32,652; 11.26. Ashburton: £36,692; 21.00. The motion was carried by a large majority. The meeting discussed cheerily lifting the moratorium next Christmas twelve month. The President (Mr Leadley) said that although £200,000,000 mortgages were publicly registered, beside large sums privately, the crisis would pass without disaster if properly prepared for. Ho advocated a London loan of ten millions to the State Advances Department, the farmers' paying one cent, sinking fund half yearly, A resolution was passed accordingly.
