Mr W. H. Hagger, Conciliation Commissioner, camo to Timaru from Christchurch yesterday. He will return north to-day. Mr C. Renn, of Christchurch, was in Timaru yesterday. He returned north by yesterday afternoon’s express. The Hon. W. J. Geddis, M.L.C., managing director and editor of the “New Zealand Times,” who is convalescent after a long illness, has returned to Wellington from Napier. Dr John Adams, Professor of Education at the University of London, , has accepted the invitation to visit New Zealand extended to him by the Minister for Education, the Hon. C. J. Parr. Dr Adams, who is among the foremost British educationists of the day, is also to visit California, South Africa, and Australia. Mr Evan Parry, formerly Chief Eleetrcal Engineer for the Dominion, .but now Chief Engineer for the British Electrical Company, was in Timaru • yesterday. He left by last night’s express for Christchurch. Mr Parry is .visiting New Zealand in connection with the electrification of the Otira Tunnel, for which his firm has the ■ contract. Mr Ewan Campbell, president of the Wanganui Jockey Club, celebrated his 80th birthday on Saturday, when he was entertained by the present stewards and past* officials of the club at the racecourse in the afternoon. Opportunity was taken to present Mr Campbell with a piece of silver plate, suitably inscribed. Mr Campbell has filled nearly every office in the club. Mr Campbell witnessed the first race meeting held at Wanganui in December, 1848, seventy-five -years ago. • On the occasion of his leaving the employ of McGruer Davies and Co., Mr J. E. Cameron was presented with a gold-mounted fountain pen and razor and strop, also a beautiful hand-bag ' for Mrs Cameron, as a mark of esteem | by his fellow employees. Mr Triggs, in | making the presentation, conveyed the, very best wishes of. the staff to the recipient, who suitably returned thanks. Mr Cameron has joined the staff of the C.F.C.A. as head of the Manchester ] (department.
