Y. W. BASKET BALL CLUB
The Temuka Young Women’s Basket Ball Club played a match with the Waihi Club at Temuka on Thursday last. After a good game the home team ran out winners by 26 points to nil. The game was more even than the scores would indicate. Waihi’s chief, weakness being in the passing. Miss Ngaio Foulteney was referee. After.the match the visitors were entertained at afternoon tea in Budd's Tea Rooms, where Miss Leatham, an behalf of the AVaihi Club, thanked Temuka for their hospitality. Miss Washington made a suitable reply. The picture is reported to be decidedly different and entertaining in more ways than one. The usual good supports are included, and this high-class programme will conclude with the seventh episode of the interesting serial “Perils of the Yukon.”- J ,— ! \\ COMING EVENTS.
On Thursday evening next the 1.0.0. F. Lodge will hold a progressive euchre party and dance in the Drill Hall. In addition to the usual prizes' for ladies and gentlemen, there will be a special prize for the ladies, which’ has been very kindly donated by Mr Alex. Anderson. The annual meeting of the Temuka Mechanics’ Institute will be. held in the library on -the evening of Thursday first. A specially Jarge attendance is requested as there are several important matters to ha dealt with. The Temuka Presbyterian Church will tender,a farewell social and presentation to the Rev. Charles Macdon-, aid in the Sunday School building next’ Friday evening at 7.-30. The ladies of the congregation are asked to supply the supper, and it is hoped that ail the subscribers will attend. WINCHESTER. Winchester residents and old pupils of the school were grieved to read of the sudden passing of their old schoolmaster in the person of the late Mr G. Steven. The flag at the school was i flown at half-mast throughout yesterday.
