It is reported that the health of the Hon. D. H. Guthrie, who is at present in a Wellington private hospital, is improving. Mrs Strong, Professor of Household Arts at Otago ’Varsity, will lecture in Timaru under the auspices of the .W.E.A. on “Feeding the Family.” Dr H. W. Cleary, Roman Catholic ■Bishop of Auckland, will return to Auckland by the Manuka from Sydney this week. Bishop Cleary • has been abroad about eighteen months. The Hon. J. G. Coates and Mr T. M. Wiiford arrived in Christchurch from Wellington yesterday morning. Mr Coates has gone to the .Waiau and Kaikoura districts to inquire,, into the flood damage. Mr Wiiford goes south tp-day 'to attend several Liberal banquets. A Press Association message from Washington says that the British Ambassador ' (Sir Auckland Geddes) is threatened with blindness of one eye as a result of an affliction. which has troubled him for some time. He has been ordered to remain in a darkened room.
