BOWLING.

SOUTH CANTERBURY CENTRE

At a meeting of the South Canterbury Bowling Centre there were present—Messrs F. B. Hawkey (chairman), C. E. Torlesse, J. Moyes, R. Shillito, G. Hadlee, I. J. Bradley, J. Miller, and A. Thoreau (secretary).

Mr Hadlee moved and Mr Shillito seconded —“That rule 2, section 1, be rescinded and the following substitutel: ‘ That each club in the Centre shall elect annually one delegate to represent it, and that no club shall have more than one delegate representing country clubs on the Centre.”

Mr Hadlee said that the present representation imposed an injustice on the smaller clubs, and if his proposal were given effect to it would be fair to all clubs.

Mr Bradley said that as the Dominion Council had the same rule as the South Canterbury Centre he failed to see why there should bb any alteration.

Mr Shillito said that although he had at no time found any difficulty regarding representation as between the Centre and the Timaru Club, this might not always be the case. In reply to Mr Torlesse, Mr Hadlee said the matter had been discussed at-several meetings- of his executive. Mr Torlesse said that the Dominion Association had set up rules for the several clubs’ guidance, and the Timaru Club was entitled to three delegates. He was pot in favour of reducing the representation q£ the several clubs.

j Mr Moyes said that as the motion ! was one to alter the constitution of the Centre it should have come from pome particular club, and as no club had sent it forward it should not be considered by the Centre. The chairman ruled that tho motion was in order, and he favoured limiting town clubs to one delegate representing country clubs, but on the question of reducing the representation to one delegate from each club, irrespective of membership, he would like to consult the members of his club before voting. Al« the clubs should discuss the question at their annual meetings. He would like to know the position of .other Centres regarding delegates. It was decided to write to the Christchurch and Dunedin Centres for information. Mr Hadlee agreed to submit his motion to the various clubs in the centre for consideration at their* annal meetings.

Mr Bradley brought up the question of holding a tournament in Timaru at Easter. Several players, he said, would not get a place at the Oamaru tournament* and they Bhould be catered for. It was decided that the matter be referred to the incoming committee. Mr Moyes congratulated the president on his successful conduct of the business of the Centre during his year of office, and these remarks were endrosed by Messrs Millar, Hadlee, Shillito, and Bradley. The president suitably acknowledged the compliments paid him, and thanked members for the loyal way in_ jVliich they had supported him. Accounts amounting to £2 Is 8d were passed for payment, and the meeting closed.
