Christchurch: John McKay, aged 82, formerly a shepherd, died as a result of injuries sustained by being knocked down by a train.at the Antigua Street crossing on Saturday. Frederick George Howatson lost his life while crossing the Rakaia River in a gig (during a high flood) six miles from tlie Southbridge statation. The horse and gig were washed away. Neal Munro, Howatson's companion, swam ashore. Howatson’s body has not been recovered. Invercargill: Robert Ross McGregor, 5£ years of age, fell under a moving train and had his foot partially severed. He was removed to the hospital and is In a serious condition. Alexander Wilson, stock buyer, aged 47, married, committed suicide in a private hospital by hanging himself with a chain fixed above his bed. He had been in bad health for some time and was nervous and despondent.
