I ——<s*—~ —■ AUSTRALIAN PAYMENT. An All-Australian Women's Conference, to be held In Melbourne this month, will have an Important hearing upon the fate of the Federal baby bonus (writes a Sydney correspondent). A genuine endeavour will bo made to ascertain tho opinions of the majority of women In Australia on the subject, and to find out whether they are satisfied with the present payment of £5 after tho baby is born, or whether they think that the £7 50,000 imually disbursed in this manner by tho Federal Government could he utilised to more real advantage for the mother and child. All opinions are desired, as It. Is expected that all classes of the community will bo represented. The conference will not be under the auspices of the national councils of women, but since tho national councils had the machinery In proper working order for summoning a genuinely Commonwealth representation, the Melbourne executive was asked to,, undertake tho task, and is at present occupied in the work of Inviting all women’s organisations throughout Australia to send one delegate to the conference.
