The New York “Times” Washington correspondent says that the Department of the Interior has issued a statement , and decision, declaring that it would prevent tlie Roxana petroleum corporation, which is British and Dutch owned, from obtaining leases tor exploitation of public oil lands, on the . ground that Britain and Holland were ; refusing similar rights to Americans. The statements emphasised ,tho United States’ intention to refuse oil exploitation rights to citizens of those nations which did not grant like ’’privileges to Americans. It points out that early in , 1894, Britain refused entrance of Ameri- , cans’ concerns into exploitation of oil lands in Burma, and gives at length the list of restrictions Holland'and Britain impose in various of their domains.—A. and N.Z.
