Following a violent scene in the Musical Congress, Impresario Yalte Matthi attempted to strike Pietro Mascagni. The latter challenged his adversary to a duel. Mascagni accused Yalte' Matthi who produced an opera in South America with favouring German music at the expense of Italian composers,. which had been a sore point in Italy for a long time. —A. and N.Z.
