SPORTING.
TIMARU TROTTING CLUB. A meeting of tho committee of tho Timara'Trotting C'lub was field last night. Present —Messrs J. Hole (president, in the chair), H. G. Scarf, H. F. Morton, P. G. Allen, W. Sargent, J. B. Gilchrist, H. llollinson, T. Ivey, and C. Maitland. The principal business was to make arrangements for tho forthcoming race meeting. Tho chairman made sympathetic reference to the death of tho late Mr P. F. O’Leary, who had been n loyal and highly valued supporter of the Club. Mr Hole proposed a motion of sympathy with tho widow and relatives of the deceased. Tho motion was carried by silent vote, all standing. The chairman said that members would have seen that excellent nominations had been received for the Club’s forthcoming race meeting. This was very satisfactory. The South Canterbury Jockey Club Acknowledged receipt from the Trotting Club of £SO, the money being ■given to help defray the cost of alterations and improvements at the Jockey Club’s course which the Trotting Club had asked for. Mr R. FI. Bissett was elected a steward in place of the late Mr P. F. O’Leary. ) Fir C. M. Dlinnet forwarded his resignation as a member of the Club, as he had left the district. | Messrs F. It was stated that there will bo a parking place for cars insido tho en- • trance from the Point road, as well as I another inside the entrance from the j Temuka road. . . I The secretary reported that he had ' arranged to sell programmes for tho Timaru meeting on the course at tho Waimato race meeting. Mr Fraser also reported that lie had made special arrangements to enable southern horseowners to get thou* horses homo with i expedition after the meeting. In order to prevent congestion at Washdyke, ! where Christchurch horses would bo j loaded, he had arranged with the TiI maru A. and P. Association that south- | ern horses should be loaded at the Association’s siding at tho show grounds, and the stationmaster at Timaru had arranged for a special train to go out and attach the horse trucks to the southern slow train, which would leave Oarnaru about midnight. Southern horse-owners had been written to advising them to this effect. The secretary’s action was approved. After discussing a number of minor matters the meeting closed.
