CARR ACCEPTS INVITATION. Bv T&legrapii—Press Association. WELLINGTON, Jan. 19. To-night Mr A. T. Davies, chairman of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, received the following cable message from Sydney in reference to an invitation given to E. W. Carr, the Australasian champion sprinter, to meet Maurice Kirksey, the American sprinter now touring the Dominion: “Accept invitation provided that first meeting is not before February 24. AABII leave 9th for Auckand. Other boats too late. Reply.” The Council meets to-morrow to consider a reply. Mr Daviea states that Carr will arrive in'time to compete at Wellington, Cambridge, and Auckland. Regarding the New Zealand championships, Mr Davies said that nothing has yet been decided, although the proposition is before the Council. They hope to definitely settle the matter shortly.
(The idea in inviting Carr, who holds the 100 and 220 yards championships of Australasia, to visit the Dominion at the expense of the New Zealand Association, is that he should compete in invitation race against Kirksey, Tracey, and Davidson, and over 440 yards against Taylor. The New Zealand championships have been allotted to the Otago Centre, but the latter declines to accept the dates fixed by the Association, and the latter threatens to transfer the championships to Wellington.)
