PLANNING MONARCHIST COUP.
POSITION IN BAVARIA. WILL GERMANS SUBMIT? FOOD BAN COMING. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright. (Received 11 p.m., January 19.) LONDON, Jan. 19.
"The “Pall Mall Gazette” states that disquieting information comes from Bavaria, pointing, to a monarchist cotip d’etat, owing to disorganisation created in Germany through the French invasion of the Ruhr. Official circles in Paris state that conversations continue between the Allies regarding the proper measures to be taken to induce the Germans to submit on the Reparations question. Th&se are having good results. Twentythree mine owners of Essen, including Hen- Thyssen will appear before a court-martial, charged with' refusing to deliver requisitioned coal to France. Coal tax, calculated in paper marks, will be imposed to-day and mines owners’ personal fortunes will? be confiscated if the tax is not regularly collected. In Berlin, the boycott of French goods was adopted enthusiastically, women refusing to purchase French clothing cr luxuries. The Press points out that French troops are smuggling luxuries into occupied regions for purposes of profit. A boycott of Belgian goods is also organised. “Der Lokal Anzeiger” says that the French will confiscate ' _ magnates’ property instead of imprisoning them, as they do not wish to create martyrs for the benefit of national sentiment. —A. and N.Z.
