MINERS’ DEMANDS.

ASIX-HOTJR DAY.

By Cablo—Press Association —Copyright. (Received 9 p.m., January 17.)

LONDON, January 17 Mr Hodges, replying to the coal owners' demand for an eighthour day below ground, argues that seven hours is the maximum which should be worked. Even that is too long in . tEe deeper mines, he declares. When unemployed men are absorbed and workmen can fully work, the 167,000,000 tons output, which the Royal Commission said would justify the six hour day, will be secured. The miners will then demand that Parliament will establish it.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
