With reference to a suggestion in a Rotorua telegram to-day that the telegraph oifices ..in the district should be kopt open at night, . the Post-master-General will leave it to the I scientists to decade whether it is neces- | eary. j UNEASY. I ROTORUA, June 9. -For some weeks Taupo has experienced many earth tremors. During the first two v weeks the tremors were not unduly noticed, but in the first two weeks severe and continued shakes were felt. Visitors, unaccustomed to tremors, have made exaggerated reports hut. lately residents, especially iemale, are feeling uneasy. _ The manifestations, are essentially local and only tremors, not sustained earthquakes, though the origin and direction of the travel of the quakes are in doubt. Many theories are advanced by people of the district, but the tremors are essentially local, nothing having been felt at Rotorua. ' Residents of Rotorua* who visited Tauix) on Thursday state that, they felt severe tremors, some nearly equal to the Tnrawero earthquakes in 1887. The consistency of tho tremors has prevented visitors, going to the district, but that is the slack'season and not many are ’ travelling. The disturbance appears to be seismic and there is no thermal action.
