• —.-♦- —_ Mr W. T. Coad, at present Chief Postmaster at Westporb, has been appointed Chief Postmaster at Timaru. He will take up his duties here at an early date. Sir Walter Eenruaway, whoso death in London was reported this week, was engaged in public affairs in Canterbury before ho became an official of tho High Commissioner's Office in London. He was also an early runholdc:" in. South Canterbury. Mr George Rhodes left a .diary of his early days tit the Levels, one entry in which—of November S, IB6o—records the sale of 2000 ewes to W. L. and W. Kennaway at 265. One, or both, of the brothers Kennaway, with Mr E. Acton, in 185S selected the Opawa run, near Albury, and in 1860 Kennaway and DeTamaiu took up the Burke's Pass run, and in November of that year had 3000 sheep there. Mi* Walter Kennaway was elected t & the Provincial Council in 1869 as representative for the Mt. Cook district, and from 1870 to'lS74 he sat for the Seadown electorate. In the latter vear- he was appointed to the London Office.
