MEETING OF CMMITT'EE.
The:.committee of the South Canterbury Hunt met in the office of the secretary (Mr H. H. Eraser) on Saturday afternoon. Present: Messrs H. Elworthy (master), J. Maze, J. 11. Talbot, K. H. Bissett, C. N. Orbell, R. B. McDonald, W. I'. Stericker, A. E. T. Rhodes. P. Neale, W. J; Jjassett, T. LI. Rhodes, C. If. Orbell, and A. S. Elworthy.
; The 'master said a property had been purchased at "Washdyke for'kennels at £6OO. on which a new liouso and stabling would be erected. There would perhaps be sufficient timber from the old Kennels property t 0 build new ones. The new site ho considered a very convenient position.- There were 14 acres in the property, with a five acre reserve, which was now let. Mr McDonald thought this most satisfactory, and he moved that the report be confirmed and the sub committee, thanked. Mr Bissett seconded, and the motion was unanimously adapted. The master reported' having interviewed the masters of the North Canterbury Hunts in connection with stimulating interest in hounds. It was decided thai three classes be inaugurated for hounds at the Chriseiiurch .Kennel Club's show and that the different Hunts become members of that club. This Wouid involve ail < xpeiiditure of £lo_ annually, but he thought it would be fully justilied. He had taken upon himself the responsibility of affiliating the South Canterbury Hunt.— The chairman's action was confirmed. Mr A. C. Watson (Tomuka) wrote in connection, with the trot at the recent steeplechase meeting. Mr Jones, sen., rode one horse, being at tho time owner of another competitor in the sune race. This was contrary to the rules of trotting, aud the winner should have been disqualified. He claimed second place, and also made a claim O'i tvn tickets on Orari, his own horse.
The secretary stated that Mr Jones was. Quite entitled to the place awarded Dusky Dillon, ho liemg fc owner of that horse as well as of Lvltess.*
The balance s-hwt of the recent steeplechase, was preseniod, showing the substantial balance of £686 18s. Mr C. N. Orbell inferred in complimentary terms to the excdlent an&r.gements the secretary had nuvde for the catering. The meeting considered tic to the South Canterbury Jorkey Club for the course was a reasonable one, and the balance sheet vns adopted. The question of ambulance facilities at races was discussed.—lh? : secretary stated that the District Committee, in Christcburch had a fund for the provision of the necessary fsu'.-ities, and he suggested that they oe approached in the matter. He understood that the local Ambulance Brigade wouhl be agreeable to work in v. ifb such an airangement.—The secretary was instructed. to communicate wi' h local race clubs and -with the District Committee in regard to the matter. Mr Rhodes referred to -the treatment given by Mr Jopp, of ;.the Pleasant Point Hotel, to "the hounds :i;] huntsmen. when, hunting "n ire Point district, and a resolution of thanks vas passed to Mr Jopp. , Mr O.
