BALD ROCK
HUGE AUCKLAND QUARRY. People who are familiar with North Auckland have heard of Bald Rock, a huge deposit of solid rock near Kaiwaka. The hill is 750 feet high, end its stone is in two distinct formations —one is described as a slatey formation, and is very suitable for road metal; the other is evidently one enormous stratum of solid rock, and makes a handsome building stone. It is proposed to quarry this enormous supply of rock, and to make it available for the purposes of roads and splendid buildings. The contour of the deposits and surrounding land is such as to_ provide a. working scheme by gravitation. The reports of experts declare the stone to be "the finest and best stone yet produced in New Zealand for building stone, and stone for the construction of roads and engineering works. . . . For stone of this class there is a keen and constant demand from county councils, the Public "Works Department, engineers, builders and contractors. As the supply at Bald Rock is practically limitless, there should be a prosperous future before the Pukekaroro Quarries Ltd., which is being formed with a capital of £IOO,OOO to work the "deposits. Prompt" application should be made for shares. The prospectus and application form can be obtained from Messrs G.G. and J. H. Aitken and Co, 94 Hereford Street, Christchurch or from any branch of the National Bank, or Messrs Cfolbeck and Griffiths, chief brokers, N.Z. Insurance Buildings. Queen Street, Auckland. The abridged prospectus was published in last Monday's issue....
