EUROPE'S STARVING CHILDREN

MEETING OE LOCAL EXECUTIVE

.Regarding a suggestion.made by Mr Vinnotl that public meetings be held iu tuo TJieatre Hoyal to stimulate iu--terest, it was decided that Dv '.i'ryby Kiug be asked to address a pi; I lie meeting in I'imarti, as soon as convenient., on the conditions in Central Europe. The chairman stated that the P.cgimentaL Jiand had agreed to give two sacred concerts next Sunday, on theliny iii the afternoon and in the Theatre in the evening, the proceeds to be divided between tne Broken UiU Distress Fund and the Central Europe Fund. The matter of arranging ior collectors for Sunday n-as' lett to Mr Koiler and the secretary.

On the suggestion that the fund be a .South Canterbury one, the secretary was instructed to communicate \v;tn the chairmen of the .various local bodies, asking them, to inaugurate si fund in their respective localities. In answer to a citiostion, Mr Stinson stated that there were two "fundi' i'or the relief of distress, one known as the Fight the Famine Fund, and the other ino Save the Children Fund. Ho did not know which fund local contributions would be sent to, but he considered thai- it would give the- public confidence if they knew who administered the fund.

It, was decided that the secretary obtain as much information as possiLle on this point before next meeting. The chairman said he proposed collecting from the school children, when the schools reopened. The meetingapproved of this suggestion. Mr Stinson said that arrangements' had already been made for reaching the children through some of tk'3 local: Sunday schools. Tile question of a house to house canvass was left over till a fuller meeting of the Executive, and the nutter of issuing a strong public appeal, setting out the ifctnal position of Central Europe, was left to Archdeacon .'Jacob and the Rev. T. Stinson, to be made through the local Press. Several other detail matters wpre discussed, and it was decided tv: meet again on Monday evening next.
