STEEPLECHASE MEETING. ARRANGEMENTS FURTHER ADVANCED. The committee of the South Canterbuiy Hunt Club met on Saturday. Preent—Messrs H. Elworthv (MasR. Macdonald, J. S. Talbot, R H Bisset H. C. Bennett, P. A. Elworl they A. E. T. Rhodes O. L. Orbell ancl T. R. Rhodes. ' The Master reported that the subcommittee were still negotiating for a suitable site for kennels. Arrangements for the Hunt ball were well m hand. Mr Bisset reported that se-.-erai farmers at Seadown objected to the Hunt crossing their land, and Id was decided to hold tho meet at Waitawa m place of Seadown. Tho chairman stated that tho arrangements for catering at the race meeting wero in the 'secretary's hands. It was decido that a. soft drinks b.-mth be arranged for, ' provided a license was not granted. Tho following were elected a Judicial committee:—Messrs C. N. Orb'jll A.' S. Elworthy, F. F. Neale, H. JLbvorthy,. and B. R. Maedonald. It was deefded to ask Mr H. Lowry to act as delegate at the Hunts Association Conference in Wellington, cnu to bring forward tho question of carriage on railways of horses returning from hunts. Mr Elworthy gave an emphatic denial to a rumour that in some parts of the district qualification tickets were practically handeel out. The (South Canterbury _ Hunt was well known for the genuineness of its qualifications. The secretary stated that he had applied for tho usual train service in connection with the . race meeting. This' included a special train from Christchurch and the delaying of country trains.—This action -was approved. _ . _ An emergency committee consisting of Messrs H. Elworthy, W. H. Orbell, A. E. T. Rhodes, and R. H. Bisset was elected, and an entertainment committee consisting of Messrs A. E. T. Rhodes, H. C. Bennett, and A- S. JElworthy. Messrs F. Sercombe and M. Charles wero elected members of the Hunt.
