Cooper and Ed. Coxhead, have returned after spending a week at Lake TekapoMrs Shallcrass, Otipua Road, returned- last Satui'day. from Auckland. Mr E. Shallcrass, Hastings, is at present staying with his parents. The South Canterbury Art Society will hold their openina: night at the Technical Stehool next Mondav, when a large attendance is confidently expected. Besides pictures and curios, several exhibits of special interest to women, ■will be shown—beautiful cliina and rare old lace, the latter including a. fine pieco worn by Sir Francis Sydney, at the Court of Queen also several fascinating embroidered, silk gowns worn at the same'period. Quaint old jewellery appeals to all, and of this there will bs a great display. The exhibition will remain open for a fortnight and will bo well, worth seeing.
WEDDINGS. ' GALIi—AUSTIN. On Wednesday, April 21sfc; Knox Ghiivch,} Dunedin, was the scene of: a very pretty and interesting wedding,
the bride being Miss Alice Austin, only daughter of Mr and Mrs AV. Austin, Roslyn, Dunedin, and grand-daughter of Mr J. Austin, and Mr and Mrs J. Blyt'h, Temuka, and the bridegroom, Mr Alec Gale, younger son of Mr and Mrs W. Paget Gale, Dunedin; The ceremony ivas performed by tbe Rev. I Professor Davies. The church • was beautifully decorated by girl friends of the bvide. The guests were chiefly relatives aud intimate friends of the parents of the bride and bridegroom, but a great number of well-wishers assembled to witness . the ceremony. Afterwards the guests were entertained by Mr and Mrs Austin at the Savoy Lounge, which was prettily decorated for the occasion. The 'oride looked very pretty in a gown of ivory charmeuse over pink, draped with georgette and pearls. She wore the usual veil orange blossoms, and l carried abeautiful bouquet of white roses and pale pink carnations. The bridesmaids were Miss Doreen Austin (cousin of the bride) wearing pale blue crepe do chene and Miss Alice Darling, wearing rale pink crepe de chene. Both wore bJack picture liats and carried' lovelv bouquets. They also carried beautiful silver purses, the gifts of the bridegroom. Th e best man was Mr iialph Malcolm (Oamaru), arid the groomsman Mr -Alec McKenzie (Dirni : m lr -.lf eddln S march was played; j.by Mr W. Paget Gale (the father of tihe bi idegioom), who also rendered. | other choice selections. Later the happy j couple motored north and will make their future home _at Hilderttiorpe, Oamaru. The -principal guests were; — Mrs Austin (mother of the bride), handsomely gowned in black satin relieved with gold and jet embroideries; Mrs Gale (mother of the bridegroom), daintily attired in amethyst silk and georgette; Mrs Stuart Austin ("Waitulci), fawn costume— and hat to match; Mrs W. Austin (Mount Gowrie), navy Paris costume, blue velour liafc and white fox furs; Mrs Joe Gala, dainty and becoming frock of grey ci'epe-de-cliene; Mrs Dr Borrie (cousin of the bridegroom); Mrs 11. Austin, (Danebury, Mayfield); Mrs. G Howes (Dunedin) ; Mrs A. • Weavers CSoiithbridge'), Mrs Davies; Mss "Waddell: Miss Eadie; Dr Whyte atld Dr David Whyte (cousins of the bridegroom), both recently returned from England. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was a handsome gold wristlet watch. Numerous cheques and valuable presents were also received.
