He was cutting down a ,- : tree when the trunk split up instead of ~. breaking off sborfc, with the result that . the butt end struck him, and in his fall Viie probably struck- another tree stump, jHe sustained injuries to Ids back and ':' shoulder, a broken rib. and a slight in';jury on the back of bis hp-id. He re- - ceived immediate medical attention,-r.nd was removed to Timaru Hospital yester-' day. i
