PROHIBITION IN SAMOA.
To the Editor of the "Timaru Herald.," Sir,—ls nothing going to be done ltd provide Timaru ivitn a Eeiorm candidate? Something should be done, if only to test the strength of Reform; voters, and to save us losing our votes, as voters are struck off the roll if they do not vote, and it takes a lot of bother to get them 011 again. But my fears may be groundless, and a really strong man niay come forth at the last moment. It is a pity vre cannot get another T. D. Burnett. That is the stamp of man we wanlt.—l am, etc., HOPEFUL.
To the Editor of the "Timaru Herald." Sir,—A few days ago you devoted considerable space to a report of a meeting in Samoa at which a resolution was passed and a petition signed against; prohibition in the island. It seemed from your report that fhe meeting was a spontaneous on© on the part of the British residents. We are now informed by the WeClington correspondent of the "Otago Daily Times," that "the principal agitators at the meeting which passed resolutions against prohibition were interested in) then liquor trade." .this is but another evidence of the untrustworthmess of much of th* cable news which we receive against prohibit °r?\,T. Th ? Trade " *» Saiboa may as well "bay the moon" as protest against prohibition The Peace conference determined that the natives shou'd be protected against the ravages of drink, and! Tm't.
