PRESENTATION TO MR H. E. AMYES.
Last evening in the Grosvenor Hotel a gathering representative of the insurance fraternity of Thnaru met' to say farewell to Mr H. E. Amyes, who is leaving tne insurance business to take up a position in the Publio Trust Office, in Wellington. Mr R Orwin, who was voted to the chair, said he was pleased to see such a large gathering of Timaru insurance men. He also welcomed Mr MoOullen general manager of the Eagle and British Dominions Insurance Company, who is on a visit to Timaru. The reason for their meeting, he said, was to farewell Mr Amyes and this was a doubtful pleasure, as Mr Amyes was very popular with the local insurance ;nen, and they all felt that they were losing a splendid and energetic colleague, who had always been upright, straightforward, and absolutelv "white" in all his dealings, and he (Mr Orwin) vas sure that wherever Mr Amyes went or m whatever lie undertook he would be a success. He had great pleasure in presenting Mr Amyes with a wallet of notes as a token of the high esteem in which he was held by the insurance fraternity of Timaru. (Applause.) All others present spoke in similar terms, eulogising the way in which Mr Amyes had always gone about hi s business.
The guest's health was then drunk with musical honours.
.Mr Amyes ma neat speech thanked lus rriends tor then 1 generous gift and kind wishes. He would always have happy recollections of his life in Timaru, and of the way he had b eea treated by competitors in the same line of business.
