SCHOOL HONOURS.
To tlio Kdilor of the ''Timaru HeLalcl. ,: Sir,—l understand thai i-ho .time ior the public schools term examination is approaching The present system is, I believe, for the names of the highest ten pupils in e»ch standard to bo published in an "Honour's List.' 1 There is a certain amount of ieulina; about this among the children. For instance, a child in one standard is placed on this list, whereas other children with much higher marks in another standard, arj placed much lower, simply because that standard has a larger propoition of brighter pupils. j\iy suggestion is that a uniform standard be adopted the same as fn ninsic examinations, all children obtaining SO per rent, of the maximum number of .mark', to be placed on the '"Honour's Li«t." t'>en both parents and pupils* would know the exact, woitli of this list ol honouis. At present it is very misleading!.—J am, etc., 3j£)TllLi£ OF fclX.
