AMUSEMENTS.

FXJLItERS' PICTURES. ■ The programme which is being shown at the Theatre Royal at present and is drawing big houses, is one of great variety. "Thirty a. Week," a .new Goldwyn production, is a delightfuL story of the courtship of a chauffeur and the pretty daughter of his employer. A further , episode in the attractive series "The Scarlet- Runner," found favour with all present. Two very interesting scenic films are "Trip to Ron a on a Whaler," which takes the spectator through most interesting sea scenes and sea. hircl rookeries, and "A Trip to Blighty.' The latter lias particular interest for our repatriated fighters. The audience much appreciated both these films. This fine programme is completed by a comedy and a Gazette, to which must be added the music, supplied by tho Royal Orchestral Trio.

THE GRAND. Another good audience greeted the screening of "Back to the Woods'' fi Goldwyn laughter raiser, at the Grand last evening. In this picture Mabel Normand is seen to advantage and as usual her acting, is of a very high standard. She plays the part of a girl who goes in search of "a man like mother picked." Her search led her into a backwoods village and there she met the object of her search. As usual tho course of true love did not run smootlily, and the lovers have several "tiffs" before, they are finally united. The supports are good. The star attraction for Monday night is a Metro drama entitled "Secret Strings," starring beautiful Olive Tell. The play which was adapted for the stage production of tlie same name by the noted authoress, Kate Jordan, was n Broadway success, with a record breaking season. SKATING. The popular Olympia rink will open to-day at 2.30 and to-night again at 7.30. Skaters should not miss- any' opportunity of fitting themselves ■ for the grand carnival de luxe to take place in a few days time.
