LOCAL MARKETS.

FARM PRODUCE REPORT. The wheat market still remains'in,' a very misatiiiaetory state, tho arrival ui ! a further shipment of 15,000 sacks of Australian wheat having made it Morse than it otherwise would have been. Tho position now is that millers are lull up and do not want to buy in the meantime. Farmers have a lot of wheat stacked in the paddock, and thero is also a largo quantity in store. Occasionally a line of locally grown is- sold, but it has to bo of very good quality before millers will look ;Vt it. It is futile to siVomit to them anything but Velvet and Hunters. A few (lays ago a lino of Tuscan was tveiifc iron; Timaru to Dunedin, and it found a btrver in tho southern city. The quality' of tho wheat just landed from '.Australia is excellent. Fowl wheat is selling at 6s f.o-.b., through store. Most of that which is j being sold just now as fowl wheat is in reality milling wheat which cannot i be disposed of as such. Oats showed a firmer tendency in iho early part of. the week, but_ aro Dot now quite so firm. 'Comparatively few arc changing hands. Sales have been made of . A. grado Gartons at os lOd to 4s. B. grade a penny less. Good heavy Duns aro also selling at 4s. on trucks, country stations. Thero is :> demand from thi> North Island for peed Algerians and Duns_ at 3s 9d to 4s 3d, according to quality, and how tlmv are dressed.

Nothing is doing in oatsheaf chaff, farmers being reluctant to sell in faco of thn shortage of winter feed. Its voliin to-day is £5 10s to £6 per ton, on trucks, country stations.

There is not much doing in grass or clover seeds, but farmers' dressed Ikms of cownrnss are-fetching Is to Is 2d per pound, at country stations, sacks extra.

Tho potato market is quiet. the flutter on the market last week -when tho embnrgo on export was removed having died down as soon as it became known that the Union Company were not prepared to send their boats to Australia, and run the risk of having them tied up there. It is hoped however. that the trouble at the waterfront on the _othe r side will soon be Bettled, in which case a lot of potatoes would be speedily despatched. Some bslps have been made during the week at £Q 10s to £0 15s, country st'it'o^s,

sacks in. Potatoes were never .in better condition than they aro this year, being free from blight, and sound in every way. The weather has been very favourable for digging too, and there is no mud in tha bags, so that it would be possible to ship them with a minimum of risk. There is a, good ' demand from Auckland, and between , 9000 and 10,000 hags were sent thero from Timaru this week.
