HUNTING.
MEET AT THE LEVELS. The Levels meet, which is recognised as one of the most popular iof the season with limiting mm, was held on Thursday last, and the showers we had liiid esir-ier in fbe week gave promise that: scent might lie well. However, shortly, before the time for throwing off a cold southerly wind sprang tip making it most- unpleasant for both followers arid onlookers mid ruining a'Dy chance of n< srood scentinc day. . Punctually at 11.30 -t ; he houiuds were taken to the flat a.t the back of the homestead and a hiar>o was almost immediacy found in tli,° paddock by the dip.. Talcing a complete circle of severa'. of the fln.t paddocks, she. came back past the dip and then turned duo west for the big bluegum plantation. 'The hounds" wei-e ''travellingTaifly 'fa/it" and sKe (Jid not stay in the plantation, buii went straight through with her head to the -wind. Following a straight lins due •.vest- she left the Levels paddocks and ■got'into ilr Johnston's, iQurough a eoup.e of his padidocks and into Air McCoy's, with the padk travelling in greafi style. It'loioked like a certain, kill, but suddenly the scent failed,' and though cast;in all directions} the pack failed to hit off the line. A pojwfc was made in this run, and the pack had hunted weli, and thoroughly deserved a kill. It was hard luck 1 that tlwy failed as the hare must Suave been dons?.
Ati. adjournment was then taken for lunch, which was served on t*he verandah, and after a short speill girths were tightened and the pack was taken to the paddock above theihouse. There a hare was soon fourid which gave a fair run of;about two miles,. but scent was had 'and hares were rather numerous. Though the pads again. worked wefl they were unable to show much sport. A couple more short runs concluded the clay's sport. Before leaving for home Mrs and Miss Orbe-1 provided a welcome cup of tea, which was much appreciated after the cold afternoon.
