MONTHLY MEETING. . ; The month!v meeting of the Waimate County Council' was held at Waiiriate on Wednesday... Present: Messrs T. L. Hart (chairman), Johnston, Kinross, Bitchener. Gillies, Whatman, Elworthy. . .... \ CHAIRMAN'S STATEMENT. Accounts amounting to £1443: 4s ''.d are presented for payment, ■ and .the County Eund Bank Account shows a de'oit balance of £634. Since our last meeting members of this and. other Counties in "South Canterbury have had the pleasure of paying a visit to the Waitaki County. . The visit will long be remembered-by. those who had., the pleasure of joining iii it-"the" re-'' putation of our southern neighbours for hospitality was fully maintained, and the. outing was; most instructive" xandenjoyable and fully, justified the time spent.:. "During the month' a public meeting was called in Timaru to urge on the_ Government the necessity of providing a consumption sanatorium for South Canterbury. I was unable to be present at the meeting, but formed one of/the deputation to the Minister of Health in Wellington wh e n its views iu the. matter.w9.ro laid before him. Although the Minister could not see his way to agree tp the site suggested, he" recognised the necessity for something being done, and suggested co-operation with Otago in establishing a sanatorium. I would respectively suggest to this Council the desirnbility of following such a course as the size of the district would then be large enough to warrant and support ■ a well-equipped institution. The chairman's suggestion was approved.

The Hospital Board notified two ■coses of infections disease. The Public Works Department forwarded authority for a Government grant of £27£ towards Miller's Flat bridge, ■

The Chairman and Engineer were appointed to represent the Council at t"e New Zealand. /' Counties' .Association Conference. "

A deputation from the Waimate Borough Council, consisting, of the Mayor (Mr W. E. Evans) and Councillor Fulton waited upon the Council, and nrped the necessity of procuring an up-to-date motor ambulance for the district, and the exoneration of the County Council with The Boiongh Council and the 'Hospital C-nnTnrltec in rnibi"f th" funds to purchase the ambulance.
