WAIMATE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
FQETNIGHTLY MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the Waimate Borough Council v,-as held on Tuesday, evening. Present—His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. E. Evanß), Councillors Collett. Morrison Fulton, Nash, Bohtn, Nicol, Tompkins, and Thomas. The Minister of Internal Affairs advised that the peace celebration would be held on th'i second ■ Sunday. Monday, and Tuesday after the rfc'eipt of the official announcement of the preliminary peace having been signed. The chief inspector of explosives advised that precautions to "be taken in letting off fireworks. The Minister of Mines acknowledged receipt of. the Council's resolution relative to opening tip the Seven-to-Nine Mile coal seam, and stated that' the matter was receiving his careful consideration. ! The- Acting-Prime Minister wrote stating that Cabinet had agreed to the: establisHment of a new colliw.v near Nine Mile Point, a.n"d steps would be taken, to have the construction, of the necessary branch railway put in hand as soon as possible. Mr G. Botherwav applied for and was wanted permission to construct a rl min in common.
