SOLDIERS WELCOMED.
fjTUDHOLME 4ND WILLO WBRIDGE MEN. ■ The Studliolme arid. Willdwbridge Soldiers' Social Committee held a. most successful social in the Hamiaton Hall last Thursday night; when a right royal welcome home was extended to fourteen soldiers. ' The -weather • was perfect, and the attendance was very large, the hall being flilled to its fullest seating cnpacity. Mr John Murray occupied the chair, find in his opening remarks fio .briefly. •• referred to the fact that there were five boys not coming -hack, they having d.ed on the fielld of honour, and asked all, while rejoicing for the return of so many, not to forget the sorrowing ones. He then extended a hearty welcome to the following:—Captain McGowan, Lieut. W. Neale, Sergeant .13. Herd and wife. and Privates G-. 1Gib'o, L. Parker; H. Sides J. Kelso, E. Haves, C. and J. Edwards. A. Cruickshanks, C. Chadwell, R. Frost (fit Main Body man). John Campbell, and P. Kennedv • Lieut. W. Nealo . i briefly responded .on behalf of the returned men. . The Rev. Mr Scotter and Mr .W.-. Hunter, solos: ■ Mr J. Erohan, Highland fling. . A hearty vote of thanks • was passed | to the performers. Th e singing of tho National Anthem was follewed by.supper, after which the floor was cleared for dancing,' whicfh; was carried on in. an enjoyable maimer to the music of Messrs J. Kea'ton . A. Borthwick, and volunteers. Mr P. Hunter • acted as M.C. Miss Manchester and Messrs .1. Kearton and P. Hanley were accompanists. Mr Hanlev also contributed verv acceptable, music during supper. ■ Mr Murray at the close announced : his intention to call a public- meeting ••for"-Thursday.: to make arrangements ' to present medals to the returned men
