Otago Steeplechase published on Saturday have caused. a- good deal of comment so far as South Canterbury owned or tnained_liorses are concerned, but it seems tolerably certain that the handicaps have been • mutilated somewhere in transmission. At the Timaru meeting Vascular was handicapped on the second day to give Kaupokonui 71b; Kaupokonui was scratched, Vascular won, yet in the Otago Steeplechase they appear as both receiving 11.3. Vascular gave Nita 221b and Sylva 19lb and beat them at Timaru; at AVingatui the telegraphed handicaps put each of them within 181b of him. On the first day at Timaru Dardanelles (who did not start) was given 271b from Vascular (who won); in the Otago race there is apparently ,only 201b between them. Tt is probable that the weight allotted to Crib and Vascular should be 11.13- or 12.3, fi& 11-3 J£ N<?gr,?pb.ed, ,
