PEACE CELEBRATIONS.
GERALDLXE .COMMITTEE. x ' _____ This Committee met on Friday night, there being a good attendance. The Mayor, who presided, read a telegram from the acting Premier stating that the Peace celebrations would begin on the second Sunday after the signing of the Peace Treaty, but should the Imperial Government appoint a general day of celebrating the 'event the decision of the New Zealand Government might be altered. Reports were received that the Four Peaks and Orari Bridge schools would take part in the procession. It was agreed that instead of erecting an arch poles should be erected on each side of the main street at the business centre and at " other .points and that streamers of flags should be stretched across the road. It was understood that the Salvation Army would also take part in the thanksgiving service. Reports were received ' from the various committees and many details received attention. It was resolved to plant trees in the Park in commemoration of Peace, and Dr. Hislop, Major Kennedy, and Councillor Sherratt, with the Mayor, were appointed to select sites and arrange for trees, the planting to take place'on the Tuesday, «nd the Mayoress to be asked to plant them. It was agreed that the next meeting should be called by advertisement.
