THE MINERS' FEDERATION. CONFERENCE WITH THIC GOVERNMENT, Australian unci N.Z. Cable Assn. LONDON, March 26. At a conference between the JDx<witive of the Miners' Federation and tin! Government, Mr Bonar Law, in -t'iQ course of a long conciliatory statement, dealing with the miners' proposed modifications of Mr Justice Sankey's report, said that the Government was unable to goi beyond Judge Sanks.v's cliief recommendations. Mr. Bonai Law emphasised the great beneuts accruing to miners if the report we e accepted and a strike averted and frcrr the anticipated fall in the cost of living before the end of the year. Moreornr, the Commission would continue to 5 t. and issue interim reports with regard to the betterment of mining conditions. Mr Robert Smillie, replying, undertook to fully submit the position to the Miners' Conference. He expressed the opinion that the continuation ol the Commission probably opened a n'-v era, which would possibly do more to bring peace aud prospertiy to :he mining industry than anything hitherto. NOTTS MINERS OBSTINATE. LONDON, March 28. In the ballot of Nottingham miners 211,000 voted in favour of continuing the strike and 10,200 against. Hence in to-morrow's negotiations between employers and employees a complete breakdown is threatened, and there are indications of a political crisis. BIG UNION SCHEME. ADELAIDE, March 29. The Labour Council has repudiated the one big union scheme.
