' A magnificent offering, to St. John Ambulance Association -was made _on Saturday -when the annual street collection in aid oi the iunds or the Association was taken up. About £2OO had been expected. When the money ivab counted on Saturday night it amounted to £537, and there is still a little more - to come in. It is evident horn tho voiy liberal response which the pubho made, that thev thoroughly appreciate the fine humanitarian work or the Ambulance Brigade; and in giving extra liberally, as they did on Saturday they probably had in mind also the unselfish and all-important wcik of tho Bugado during tne influenza epidemic. In addition to the street collection on Satiyday goods were sold from three shops in the Arcade. The-shops were well stocked and very attractive, /and their sales augmented the street - collections very materially. One was a producp shop in charge of Mrs J. J. Mason and Mrs G. E. Gabftes, another was a oake shop in chaige of Mrs AV. D. -Campbell, Mis E G. Kerr, and Mrs A. Stevens, while the third was, a sweets shop in charge of Mrs* D. McCaskill. At each shop as well as in'the street collections, numerous ladies assisted, and too much praise cannot be given them for the enthusiastic, p'casant and successful way in which thiay carried out their work.
