SOLDIERS' GRAVES SCHEME. r MANY REMAINS YET UNBFRIkIJ. (United Service.) Received 9.30 pm.', Jan. 22nd LONDON ; Jan. 19. Mr Peacock telegraphs that he spent several days on Gallipoli. He saw many ; remains, especially on hill 60. which were never, buried.; The reanains of officers and men who fell' there should be immediately, gathered up and interred. The New .Zealanders have already done much, marking of isolated graves. ■ The following scheme was drawn up and was generally endorsed. There is in the whole battlefield three or four thousand acres which are valueless for ■production. ' This - area should be secured, enclosed, and consecrated as an everlasting memorial.. Trenches,: hospital sites, a,nd other distinctive features should he preserved and reconstructed, the cemeteries cleaned up; said uniform sitones placed on eadh grave. . Outlying graves should remain undisturbed. ' Exposed remains should be gathered within the sectors, where regimental monuments should be. erected, showing the names of the 'dead. An Australian and New Zealand Trust should be created, charged with maintenance of the battlefield, appointing a permanent caretaker, the , do- , minions sharing the cost.
