The inventor claimed that lib of his explosive was equal to 101b of black powder, and a six-inch shell propelled by the explosive would equal the ordinary twelve-inch shell. The John Pomcroy mentioned in London cables as the inventor cf an explosive bullet which was the principal factor in destroying Zeppelins raiding England, is a native of invercargill beihgthe son of Mr J. PnmiToy, who was well known there in the lishing industry. Mr Pomcroy, some six years ago, offered his ©plosive to the British War authorities, who did not then accept it. but it would appear from the cable news that the authorities later on decided to make use o!' the explosive and that it has been a success. Mr Poineroy is also the inventor of a smoke consumer and a water softener for boilers, both inventions being largely in use, and he has also invented a hydraulic clutch for stationary engines." When the battle ship New Zealand was in the Dominion Mr Pomcroy presented to her the well-known bull-dog "Pelorus Jack" which has been for some time one of the ship's mascoU. Mr Pomerov, who is about forty years of age, resides at present in England.
