PETTY LARCENY.

THEFT FROM STORE CART. At the Magistrate's Court at Temuka on 'lliursday, three men named Ford, FJynn and Bates, mates working at a camp near Temuka, were charged with stealing bread, butter, and tobacco, valued at £1 12s 6d, from tho delivery cart of C. Opie, storekeeper, AVinchester. Mr Opio stated that the goods were taken l'rqm his cart in Temuka while lie was having lunch in tho Royal Hotel, the cart being in the hotel yard. After lunch Ford came to tho cart for his usual supply of goods, and witness then saw that some tilings had been stolen, and he informed the police. Constables Murphy and Robertson testified that they went to accused's camp. Tho men there denied having stolen anything, but the hread and butter were found in bags close to the camp The tobacco was'not found. Flynn denied that ho had been away from tho camp, and said he did not think either of the others would take iroods from the carfc without intending to pay fdr them. The Bench, Messrs Hanco'x and Hamilton', J.r.s, dismissed he charge against Flynn. and, supposing that the other two did not realise tho seriousness of what they were doing, dealt with them leniently, in filling them £3 each, the goods to be returned to Mr Opie,
