The. British armies alone have taken 14,000 prisoners in three days, while in four days two French armies have recaptured more-• Ifaau fifty towns and villages.- I
The "Scientific American" gives a description of the "whippets," the new small, fast tanks, made to follow tip the enemy in the open, which have proved their value in the recent fight, ing. They hear the same relation to the old tanks as destroyers hear to battleships. Tlie "whippet" has caterpillar treads of the usual design, arranged on either side of a sort of flat-car hody. On the platform of the flat-car is mounted a single turret which houses the crew and the several machine-guns with which it is armed. iTlio flat-car hody measures 18ft in length, while the turret is 6ft in height. The engine is placed at the rear of the "gun turret, in a concrete armoured housing. The "whippet" is said easily to cover twelve miles an hour, and it is a British invention.
