The annual report slated riaat a very, successful year Jiad been experienced. Nearly all tiie clubs had affiliated to the centre. "The* membership of all clubs was 331. "Tlio pennant games were well contested, every club taking part in them. West End won the A section, and Waimate the B section, and Waimato won the pennant for tlio season. The singles championship was won by Mr W. U. Hawkey (Park), tho doubles by Messrs Chapman and Cochrane (Waimate), and Messrs Edwards, McCallum, Nottingham, and Keys <Temuka) won the rinks. The Bristol •Cup created a good deal of interest, and some fine plav was witnessed. Ria Toa won the cun from Ashburton. The Christmas tournament was again a success, 32 rinks and 70 doubles being entered. There was - credit of £33 Gs Sd on the games, and this was distributed as follows:—Y.M.C.A. £ls. Red Cross £ls, Pipe and Tobacco Fundi £3 6s Sd. The financial position of the Centre was good, the year closinm with a credit of £ll 0s 7d. Uic Centre had lost Mr E. W. Wade, tls© secretary. and his services had been recognised in a tangible way. Tho president made some remarks oa the report and balance sheet, and these wero adopted.
In vacating the presidentship, Mr Young thanked the -~ r «~>TS and members for their willing assistances He uicved Hint a letter of niwreciation be sent to Mr "Wade in recognition of his work for the Centre, and this was agreed to. A heariy vote of thanks was passed to Mr Young for his j>ast services.
The election of officers resulted as follows:—President. Mr E. D_ Bust; vice-president. Mr J. Menzies; treasurer. Mr J". \Y. Soutor; w': 1 -
A. Thoreau; auditor. Mr R. Bagjshaw; * emergency committee, Messrs rl D.Bust, J. Menzies, and A. Shirtcliffe. It was decided that entries for the Bristol Cup shall be in by October sm. A discussion took place on suggestions that in pennant: matches town dubs should play six rinks, and that, pennant matches be abolished in favour cf friendly games. Mr Hadlee moved aud Mr Shirtcliffe seconded that tlie matter of the abolition, or otherwise, of pennant games lie referred to the various clubs for discussion, and that delegates reiwrt decisions aud suggestions to a meeting of the Centre on October 7th. ilr Hawkey moved an amendment that the pennant games be in two grades. A and B, clubs having cighs rinks to play in the A giade. and clubs having fewer rinks to play in the B grade. This was not seconded, and Mr Hadlee" s motion «a< carried with two dissentients. A vote of thanks was passed to ladies for the way they had worked in the c!u!js' iuterests.
